Searching & Browsing in the Jach & Lazaris Room

How do you browse through more than 98,000 messages,
especially when so many of them are so good [g]?

When we created the Jach & Lazaris Room we decided that we would not have the messages "scroll off" like they do in so many message boards, only displaying messages written in the last 30 days or less. The Lazaris material is timeless and we knew that the discussions of that material would be fascinating and helpful to people no matter when they came into the room. Consequently, the number of messages will continue to increase. Fortunately, there are three great ways to browse or search through the messages in the Jach & Lazaris Room, and each one has a specific function that makes it work best for certain types of browsing or searching.

New Messages: This search is done by clicking the button at the top of the Preferences page that comes up when you first enter the Forum. This will search the database for all the messages since the last time you clicked the New Messages button, and display a "results page" with each message, section by section. The top of the "results page" has a list of the messages, the title of its thread and the first 40 or so characters in the message, with the text of each message displayed below the list. You can click on an individual message in the list to jump down the page to the text of that message, or just scroll down the page to read the text of each message.

The New Messages function works best when you check the Forum regularly. It will display up to 100 messages per Section, so if you have not gotten New Messages for a while this could take some time to display all the messages. In that case it can be better to use one of the other two methods for catching up with what we've been talking about.

Search: The Search button, also appearing at the top of the main page, is used to look for specific messages. Clicking the Search button brings you to the Search page, which can look a little complicated, but once you understand the complexity it is very easy to use. For example, many people who post a lot use this by putting "Dear (their name)" in the keywords, and checking Messages (rather than Titles), leaving all the sections unselected and setting the time to the last time they checked messages. This will then display all the messages addressed to them for that time period.

Another way is to put a word like "empowerment", or "map-maker" in the first keyword box, check Messages rather than Titles again, and set the time back. This will display all the messages where people mentioned the word, and reading these can spark insight that can be most helpful. It can also be neat to put "Jach Pursel" in the Author box, set the time back and find yourself scrolling through some of the great material Jach has posted.

You can use up to 3 keywords (one in each keyword box) when searching for messages; for example, I searched All Forum Sections for messages that have "Lazaris" and "empowerment" and "grace" for the past 2 years and this helped me find a particular message much more quickly than searching by any one of the words alone.

Show: This is the best way to browse through lots of message. The Show button appears at the bottom of the Options page, below the list of all the Forum sections. This method makes it super easy to catch up on the postings in the forum, or to easily see the wide range of topics we discuss and read whole "conversations" about Intensity, or Progesterone or the latest Movie or TV show. You just select all of the sections you want to peruse by clicking in the check box next to the section title, (on this Options page), set the time, (how many days back do you want to look), and then click Show. You will then be presented with a list of all the threads that have been posted to during the time range you picked, for all of the sections you checked. This list also displays the total number of messages in each thread. Then, by clicking on a thread title you jump to the entire threaded discussion, with the full text of each message in that discussion, in the order it was posted.

My favorite use of this is to check all the Lazaris Material Sections and set the time to 365 days (or up to 5 years), and then click OK, (leave the "filter threads by keywords" blank). What returns is a spectacular list of incredible discussions since the beginning of the Forum. I can always find one that applies to something I am working on in my own process. Of course this works just as well for the Political Discussions or the Just Stuff.
