Solutions for buffering and other PPV issues

If you are having problems with the PPV buffering, here are some ideas to help you fix it.  There is also a set of questions at the end, so if you need more help from us, please put your answers into an email and send it to us and we will help you get this working.

First things to look at:

1) Try all 3 versions to see if one works better than the others.  We know the audio-only version is not ideal, but it is the version that will work for most people, even with some connection problems.

2) Update to latest Adobe Flash Player (free): http://www.adobe.com/downloads/

and latest QuickTime Player (free): http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

3) Check your download speed:  http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Make sure it is the speed you are paying for from your ISP.  If it is slower, then give them a call.

Speed and buffering problems can be a problem that your ISP can fix, or it may be an equipment problem: old computer, malfunctioning router -- broken routers can cause intermittent speed problems and they are not too expensive to replace. This has been the source of these types of problems for dozens of folks we've worked with over the years, including us.  Even slight power surges can knock them out of kilter.

4) Switch to a wired connection if you are using wireless. Be sure to secure your router, otherwise neighbors can use your signal and cut your bandwidth significantly.

5) Try a different Browser, and make sure you have the latest version -- Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer.  These are free and it is a good idea to have more than one browser on your computer.

6) If you have a second computer to try, this can help pinpoint the problem.

7) Buffering problems specifically -- the QuickTime Mobile is designed to save ahead, so that if you pause the player for a few minutes and allow it to save ahead then it should perform better.

8) Try different times of day and different parts of the house.  Neighborhood internet traffic and proximity to your router can affect performance.

Satellite and Wireless Access Cards (Verizon, ATT cards for laptops)

These provide very limited "broadband" connections.  Satellite services usually have caps on daily usage and restrict download speeds without notice. Speak with your satellite provider about these restrictions.
Wireless Card connections vary greatly due to local traffic and distance from towers.

Therefore, for these connections the only reliable way to attend PPV events is to use the Audio-only version.

If you need more help from us, please email with the answers to these questions:

1)  What kind of internet do you have?   DSL, Satellite, Cable?   What's the actual speed of your internet connection?   Go to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and give us the results, they will look something like this:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 21539 kbps (2692.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2487 kbps (310.9 KB/sec transfer rate)

2)  Are you on wireless or a wired connection?  Many times wireless at the house - stops and starts more than a wired connection causing you to lose the signal briefly, or perhaps you have a weak signal to begin with.

3)  Are you on a Mac or PC?  What's the age of the computer? What operating system are you running?

4) For trouble shooting purposes, please tell us what happens specifically when you try each of the three versions: error messages, stop and start, blank screen, etc.

Flash/HTML5:

QuickTime Mobile:

Audio-only:
